Feedback and self-evaluation
Introduction
This post works as a self-evaluation of the student in the course “Sosiaalinen media tutuksi”. The self-evaluation describes my learning process during the course; it describes what was good in the course, what did I student learn, what could I or the teacher have done differently and so on. The self-evaluation also creates an overall picture of the course and gives a grade suggestion to the student.
Pros and cons of the course
and improvement suggestions
The pros of the course include; interesting subject, virtual course, well organized and thought through. For my timetable it was great that the course was organized online: this way I could plan my own timetable and study the subject carefully when I had time at home, and also make the assignments when I had booked the time for that in my calendar. The subject was very interesting, as I work in the marketing branch now, and need to use social media at work all the time. I also should continue studying new social media applications and programs in order to identify the possible new-comes in some; what could and should be used in business life and what should not be used, according to the company´s strategy.
The course was well organized and you could tell that the course had been kept many times. The assignments had been planned and structured well; they were not too hard or impossible to implement, and the time required to make the assignments was fair. The blog of the teachers was good; I could get very good tips from social media applications and programs, the timetable of the course was clearly presented and so on. Also the postings were interesting and up to date, new information and articles.
Learning outcomes
I feel that I learned a lot from the course and got a more deepened picture about social media and the possibilities it offers. Social media is kind of a new phenomenon, it has not been discussed during previous courses that much and more and more companies are just starting to use it actively.
It was nice to see some data and statistics about social media and figures in the students´ blog postings, also a lot of new information was available almost every day; it was handy to get all the notifications of the blog posts to my e-mail and read them from my mobile phone e.g. in the morning on my way to work.
It was interesting to get to know how a virtual course works as well; in the beginning I had some problems with the Connect Pro program because of my work place´s internet firewalls.
I learned a lot from the assignments; I tried to pick applications that were not as familiar to me as Facebook is, and also tried to include some new perspective to them. The essay on “From traditional community to web community” I could have done better. It seemed that I had overbooked me for the spring: I was working full hours (40-50hours a week) and had six course in the school.. I stared to do the essay too late, and let me thoughts flow maybe too much, since it became a little too long. I did not get to include everything I wanted there, because of the length, so I decided to have couple of themes in my essay; after all the subject was so wide, that one could go on and on about it and even write a book about it.
Conclusion
Summa summarum: the course helped me to widen my picture of social media, I got to know a whole lot of different applications and programs, got up to date information when following the articles and learned to use the blog in a better way (e.g. attaching the Google calendar there). Now I also have a lower step in getting to know different some applications and try them myself as well. I also got some good tips on how to use some at work.
Thank you for the course and have a lovely spring and summer! Auf Wiederhören :)
